Folding Knives Australia

A folding knife is the most practical carry format for everyday use — compact enough for a pocket, deployable one-handed, and available without a sheath. The right folder handles general utility tasks, outdoor work, and daily carry without drawing attention or adding bulk. We stock folding knives from Buck, Victorinox, Kershaw, CMB Made, NexTool, and OKC — classic lockbacks, Swiss Army knives, and compact multi-tools for every carry preference.

What Makes a Good Folding Knife

A folder needs to balance blade performance, lock reliability, and carry convenience. These are the practical factors that determine whether a folding knife is worth carrying every day.

Locking Mechanism

The lock is the most important safety feature on any folding knife. A back lock — as used on the Buck 110 and Buck 112 — is one of the most proven locking mechanisms in production, simple and reliable under load. Frame locks and liner locks are common in modern EDC folders and provide solid lockup in a slimmer package. Avoid cheap folders where the lock feels loose or engages inconsistently — fold-back under cutting pressure is a real injury risk.

Blade Length and Carry Laws

Most Australians find a blade between 65mm and 90mm covers all general utility tasks while remaining practical for everyday carry across most jurisdictions. Knife carry laws vary by state — most require a lawful excuse for carrying a knife in public. Check our Knife Laws in Australia guide for a state-by-state breakdown before purchasing or carrying any knife.

Blade Steel

For a folding knife you carry daily, corrosion resistance matters more than ultimate edge retention. 420HC — used across the Buck range — is a practical stainless that resists pocket humidity, sweat, and moisture without demanding maintenance. Victorinox's proprietary stainless is softer but takes a keen edge quickly and is simple to touch up. For more on steel selection, read our Knife Steel guide.

Knife or Multi-Tool?

A dedicated folding knife gives you better cutting geometry than any multi-tool — thinner blade, better edge, proper locking system. A Swiss Army knife or NexTool multi-tool trades blade quality for the convenience of additional tools (scissors, screwdrivers, pliers, can opener). Many people carry both — a folder for cutting tasks and a compact multi-tool on the keyring. Browse our EDC Knives collection which covers both formats.

Key Folding Knives in Our Range

Classic lockbacks: The Buck 110 Folding Hunter has been in continuous production since 1964 and remains one of the most reliable folding knives available. The Buck 112 Ranger is the same lockback mechanism in a more compact format.

Swiss Army knives: Victorinox's range covers single-blade options like the Pioneer X Alox and Evoke Alox through to multi-tool formats like the Huntsman and Spartan.

CMB Made folders: The CMB Explorer and CMB Braveman are purpose-built EDC folders with quality steel and construction at practical prices.
